Project Engineer - Transportation

Dokken Engineering is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer to support project managers through the entire design process (from proposal through PS&E and construction support) for small to large transportation projects throughout California. The ideal candidate has been responsible for 5 or more projects that he/she personally designed and supported through construction.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Execute engineering tasks for the planning, design and construction of transportation projects.
  • Perform/produce detailed geometric designs, design calculations, technical reports, and PS&E for transportation facilities.
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines, utility companies, subconsultants, and clients involved in projects.
  • Provide strong and focused support to project managers in keeping projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Perform quality control for projects.
  • Mentor less experienced staff.
  • Support marketing efforts.


  • BS degree in engineering.
  • California PE.
  • 5 years of transportation project experience after PE.
  • Proven experience and demonstrated delivery of completed (100%) PS&E packages for transportation projects with construction value in the $2-$8 million range.
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary team coordination, compilation of design and construction documents, and local agency and Caltrans design standards and practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, CADD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads and other transportation design software as appropriate.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Commitment to delivering quality work products and superior service to clients.

Associate Engineer

Ideal candidates will have a California P.E. registration with 2-5 years of experience in preparing roadway PS&E packages for Caltrans and local agencies. In addition to roadway design, ideal candidates will have significant experience with drainage and hydraulic design/analysis associated with roadway and bridge projects. Candidates should possess a strong working knowledge of roadway design standards and software including Microstation, In Roads, or Geopak, as well as hydraulic design software such as HEC-RAS, StormCAD, PondPack, CulvertMaster, WSPG, or other similar programs. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, technical report writing skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are key attributes. (JP#2014-01F)
